Picasso Wants to Be a Kid Again

With this lesson, I have two goals. First, to study about Picassos interesting perspectives and second, why painting as a child was so important to him as he states in the following quote: "It took me 4 years to paint like Raphael but a lifetime to paint like a child".  The idea behind this is to introduce my students to another approach of fantasy by changing perspectives.

Objectives:

  • Teach children about the cubist Pablo Picasso, his life and his work.
  • Discuss about the development in his artwork from the early stages through the mastering of the cubism and why this is importance for the arts.
  • Learn about the unexpected perspectives and views.
  • Practice their new knowledge by creating a still life from an unexpected perspective.

Essential Questions:

1.What do you know about Picasso and his artwork?
2.Why Picasso wanted to be a child again?
3.Did Picasso live in a fantasy?

Materials:

Watercolor Paper, Oil Pastels, Watercolors and brushes.

Discussion:
This discussion will be focused in different perspectives in art and how hard Picasso worked through his life to first perfection his artwork and then to be free and have his own vision of objects by just changing his perspectives in his creations. The discussion will try to stimulated children to think different and to try new views when creating. Change in perspective can open surprisingly new path to innovate.
